I knew I would see Ethel, the great blue heron when I visited Maritime Heritage Park. I also encountered a charming flock of mallards, a lone female Golden Eye duck along with the Canadian geese. The birds were so friendly, I thought I was starring in a Disney movie about birds.
The landscape of this park offered beautiful shades of blue, gold, green, and red. I’ve always been fond of cattails too. They remind me of my childhood growing up on Whidbey Island.
Maritime Heritage Park is located in Bellingham, Washington. If you are downtown, head north on Holly Street. If you are near Prospect Street or Grant Street, take the stairs near the Picket Bridge and this will take you into the park. Bicycles and pedestrians are welcome.
