It’s hard a choice to make. Bellingham provides many parks. Do I want to hang out on the shores of the Salish Sea? Do I want to hike among giant cedar and pine? Do I want to watch the falls flowing into Whatcom Creek? Or do I want to daydream as I sit on a log on a beach contemplating the giant clouds hovering above Mount Baker?
For the sake of this hourly adventure, I hung out at Scudder Pond which is on the eastern side of Whatcom Falls Park and across the street from Bloedel Donovan Park (Lake Whatcom). Usually, there are red-winged blackbirds, stellar jays, chickadees, nuthatches, mallards, and other types of ducks at the pond. I heard that beavers also make the pond their home but I have yet to encounter one.
Sadly, when I arrived the birds had taken a lunch break. So I just took photos of the pond itself. Oh, well. I love nature’s color schemes. Red offers the final touches of an otherwise monochrome scenery.
