One of my favorite spring and summer activities is to visit the rose gardens around Bellingham. This reminds me of the saying about stopping and smelling the roses. While not all roses have a fragrance, the licorice rose is my all time favorite and I give the prize of the most aesthetically-pleasing flower to the Hot Coco Rose.
Two of my favorite rose gardens include the small one on Western Washington University campus and the larger Cornwall Park Rose Garden adjacent to Cornwall Park (cross street Illinois) off Cornwall Avenue. So if you’re downtown, you drive north on Cornwall Avenue until you hit Illinois.
